No matter what the age of your electric bass is, you should find that all Bass VI strings are interchangeable. Original Bass VI equipment ceased production in 1975. A few limited-edition bass guitars were made in 2006 before production began once again in earnest in 2013. Since all of these basses feature the same six-string arrangement, you can exchange strings between them.
This is great news for anyone who finds themselves on tour far from any music shop with a broken string. Since few other bass guitars feature six strings stretched across a 30-inch neck scale, you might think you don’t have a chance at replacing it. Just ask a fellow bassist with an older model to lend you a string and you shouldn’t have any issue with the repairs. This also means you’re free to stock up on strings designed to fit any model and then later use them as you wish.
