Scheduled, and structured, city-wide trash pickups of various kinds have become increasingly important in light of growing concerns regarding the state of the environment. Add to this the fact that different kinds of waste require different kinds of handling and treatment, and the need for properly organized pickups become abundantly clear. Waste for recycling and hazardous wastes (like chemicals and computer devices) need to be separated and treated differently from the general household waste that we dispose of. There is also waste used for other purposes such as composting, as opposed to being sent straight to landfills and dumpsters.
Due to the wide range of needs, trash pickup efforts can include everything from clean-up drives to specially placed skips across the city. Of course, in many cities, there is also the scheduled pickup of everyday household trash from bins outside the home.
