There are a bunch of different knives out there for people to use in different situations. It might seem excessive to some, but there is one in particular for use on a musical reed. These knives are used to have a perfect fit with the instrument in general.
What makes these knives unique is that just a little bit of a tweak can make all a difference in the world for a musical instrument. A person wants to customize as much as possible in order to get the most out of playing any woodwind instrument.
A reed knife is relatively inexpensive, and the only thing that they really need as far as maintenance is concerned is to stay sharp. If they are not sharp, it will not be able to scrape off just a little bit and instead possibly slice instead. No one wants that to happen.
