Longer Life To Sailboat Sails

Once you are learning to sail for a while, sooner or later you will realize that sailboat sails can be very expensive. If you want to save on replacement costs, here is a checklist of things you should do at least once a year.

First of all, check the stitching from top to bottom. Focus on sail edges because the sail loads are bigger in these areas. Mark all worn areas with a pencil and repair them to increase sail life.

Also, wash salt and dirt from your sails. These particles act as a grinder. Get rid of them with a non-bleach, mild soapy water solution.

And when you bag or cover your sails, make sure they are dry to avoid mildew growth in wet areas. Should they grow on your sail, brush off the spore with a medium-stiff brush.
