Who Pays For WCB Alberta Plans?

Are you wondering who pays for your monthly WCB Alberta policies? Well, you will find that most public sector companies pay at least part of the premium. Private-sector workers also pay for their health plans in Alberta.

From time to time, provinces request that employers contribute to the policy for their employees. In Alberta, the province requests that employers contribute at least 20% of the premiums for all employees covered under Workplace Benefits Plans (WBP). Currently, the provincial government also requested that the employers contribute an additional percentage of the premiums to offer additional coverage to “non-employed individuals who are not covered by existing plans.” Providing insurance to “in-home caregivers” is also on the horizon.

The premiums paid by employers in Alberta vary from one company to another. The cost of premiums varies because of the risk of claims and the nature of an employer’s business.
