Mission Beach is located halfway between Cairns and Townsville, but is more than merely a stopover town on the way to somewhere else. It is flanked by a World Heritage rated rainforest on one side and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park on the other. If you want to stopover there is a range of Mission Beach accommodation available from hotels that are set against beaches and rainforests as well as eco-tourism lodges, camping sites and everything in between.
The pristine coastline surrounding the town looks out onto Dunk Island and you can kayak out to it from local beaches. You can also explore Hinchinbrook and Family Islands while there. Mission Beach is a great place to soak up the sun, relax at a health or indulge in its many fine restaurants. However you choose to spend your stay you will not be disappointed by its spectacular setting and laidback atmosphere in what is a truly unspoiled location.
