What is Rehumanizing Men of Color? Is a movement that seeks to end the dehumanization and demonization of black men. It means recognizing that black lives matter, stopping the violence against black bodies, and building safer communities for black people. This movement recognizes the need for racial justice in our society by working to build healthy relationships between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
Rehumanize started as an idea by Xica Nation founder Chrystal Simmons after reading about Trayvon Martin’s death on Twitter while at work one night during March 2012. Reclaiming her right to be angry she created ReHumanize MOC which was initially intended only for other women like herself who shared similar experiences; this men’s movement is an ongoing process that seeks to restore the humanity of black and brown men killed by law enforcement, vigilantes, and in self-defense.
