Reaching Moraine Lake is an adventure in itself. Set amidst the frozen Canadian Rockies, this mountain retreat is a wonderland in summer and winter. The road leading to it is closed between October and May due to heavy snowfall, but other than that, visitors can make the trip throughout the year.
A few miles outside Banff, a sign will show up, indicating a right turn to Moraine Lake Road. Follow this path, take in the sights, and watch for wildlife as you go. Despite being a less than half-hour drive, you’ll need to be mindful of oncoming traffic and remember to stop at viewpoints for stunning snaps.
If you’re arriving from Lake Louise, take Highway 1 westbound, turn left onto Lake Louise Drive, cross the railway tracks, and you’ll find the Moraine Lake turnoff. Keep your eyes on the street signs here, and you’ll arrive safely.
Driving an RV, or towing a trailer? Don’t worry. The street leading to the parking lot isn’t steep, but it does twist and turn with some hairpin bends. Take it slow, check that your brakes are working, and give other drivers enough room to move.
How to get to Moraine Lake? Look out for a sign outside Banff that indicates a right turn onto Moraine Lake Road. If coming from Lake Louise, take Highway 1 westbound, then turn left onto Lake Louise Drive. Be safe and keep your eyes on the street signs to arrive at your destination without a hitch.
