Travelling alone comes with several advantages, although some places to travel alone are better and safer than others for the solo explorer. Some countries are considered friendlier and more welcoming than others, including Scotland, Portugal, New Zealand and Ireland. For somewhere more exotic, Malaysia, Brazil and Senegal are also noted for their friendly people. If you are visiting Europe, large cities such as London, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Berlin attract solo travellers and have plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes where you’re likely to meet others. Thailand has long been a destination for mostly younger people travelling alone, and has plenty to see and do, from beaches and jungles to temples and nightlife. Iceland is home to some of the world’s most spectacular scenery, including glaciers and hot springs and has been voted the safest country in the world for several consecutive years.
