Choosing French Red Wine

French red wine is of course, some of the best in the world. Tasting wine is quite simply the best way to decide what you like; many larger wine stores offer free tasting sessions. Red wine can also be chosen based on the occasion or the meal it’s accompanying; strongly flavored foods and red meat tends to go well with red wine, while a lighter rose wine might be better for a picnic or casual party. The bottle’s label can tell you a lot about the wine and one thing to look for is the letters AOP or AOC, both of which verify that the wine is of good quality and comes from a major grape growing region. Finally don’t assume that expensive wine is always better; in France a perfectly good red wine can be purchased for between about six and ten dollars.
