As a firefighter, everyday is opportunity to make an impact on the general public and fellow firefighters. Physical and mental fitness is, therefore, critical to a firefighter’s life. Accordingly, firefighters are required to undergo a wide range of tests. One of the most common tests for firefighters in Australia is the Ladder Simulations test.
The test assesses upper and lower body strength. As a rookie (or a new firefighter recruit), you must be able to lift the rescue ladder 75cm off its support and to a height of 182 cm. This test also determines whether you are strong enough to return the ladder to its original support. Most rescue ladders weigh about 5 kg from the lift-off point.
Like other firefighter tests, Ladder Simulations test can make or break your chances of becoming a firefighter in Australia. It is, therefore, critical to take it seriously and pass it.
