Solo travel for women has become more popular, although precautions to make sure you’re safe are essential. Most experts advise to always have a backup plan, let others know of your whereabouts and try to arrive at your destination before it gets dark. Social media can be useful for letting others know where you are. Dressing and looking like a local as much as possible will ensure unwanted attention is kept to a minimum, and coming across as confident and aware of your surroundings is also important. Some places are simply more welcoming to solo travelers, especially women, including Iceland, the Netherlands and Thailand. And of course, some countries you probably wouldn’t want to go to as a woman traveling alone. But with some common sense, research and a sense of adventure, it is possible to see the world safely and have fun doing it.
