According to HG.org, California do not have a statewide leash law in effect. However, owners are encouraged to train their dogs not to bite, and owners are also encouraged to refrain from buying canine dogs. Although, owners can place their dogs on a leash, they cannot leave their dog unattended in a public place. Leashing a dog might be acceptable if the leash is long enough for the dog to exercise, and the dog has access to adequate food and shelter. Exemptions of the dog California Leash Law are when the dog is in transit inside a vehicle or in the physical possession of a person. The dog leash law is not to punish the dog, but to protect everyone involved, such as the owner, the dog and the public. Leashes keep everyone accountable and show responsibility on the owner’s part.
