There are countless appetizers that can replace dips. A good dip alternative lies in a dish like baba ganoush, which is an eggplant, tahini, garlic, and lemon mixture usually served on toasted pita chips or flat bread. It’s flavorful and it has a nice aroma. While not particularly colorful, many people serve it with torn parsley and paprika sprinkled over the top making it more pleasing to the eye.
Another alternative is fondue, a dish made popular in the 1960’s. It’s making a slow resurgence as the public is beginning to recover from the isolation of the pandemic. Fondue is a melted blend of cheeses kept hot with a heated flame beneath the pot. When people start to congregate in mass in the coming future once again, it will begin its newest ascent up the popularity poles. The best blend of fondue cheeses is gruyere, fontina, and gouda all added in at 1/3 of the total.
