The Types Of Depression Treatment

Although depression seems more common today, the reality is it’s been afflicting people since the dawn of humanity. The difference between depression in the past and depression today is there’s less stigma attached to all mental illnesses, including depression, and there are more treatment options available.

One Depression Treatment that is available includes medication that can only be prescribed by a licensed practitioner. A family doctor or other general practitioner will either diagnose or provide a referral to a specialist, such as a psychiatrist or psychologist, who will complete various tests and analysis to determine what medication is best suitable.

Another treatment option is counselling. Again, a referral for such counselling can be obtained from a doctor or a patient may contact a counsellor directly. This counsellor could be specialized in depression or may be a certified psychiatrist or psychologist. Sometimes both medication and counselling is needed to treat more severe depression.
