What Is A Life And Career Coach?

Career coaching is one of the very first types of coaching, it was once called career counselling, and is a solution-based approach to making career decisions. While a life coach and career coach have many similar methodologies they are different in the scope of their role. A career coach focuses on job-related goals while a life adviser focuses on personal goals in a person’s life. A career coach uses models, assessments and objective criteria while a life coach uses conversations, patterns, feelings and values to determine a person’s life goals.

However, the two things are strongly intertwined and a life and career coach would argue that a person’s career often defines them. Using this argument, a choice of career can often determine the course of a person’s life and the things they spend their time doing. Many would argue that had they chosen a different career their life would have taken a different course.
