Fruits, vegetables and crops that are grown in organic soil are healthier because they are free of chemicals, but also because they contain more vitamins, minerals and other nutrients than non-organic vegetables and fruit. If you want to grow your own organic vegetables, you need to start with the right kind of soil. When buying soil for your garden make sure you are buying Certified Organic Soil.
To get an official certification the soil has to pass tests that determine if it contains any chemicals or chemical residue, for example pesticides or other synthetic substances that are used in agriculture. Organic farmers are not allowed to use chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and for soil to be certified organic it has to be pesticide-free for several years. The certification guarantees that your soil does not contain any residue from toxic and potentially harmful chemicals.
