Scotch is a whiskey traditionally aged in oak barrels, charred on the inside of the barrel. This gives it an amber color and also imparts flavors from the wood into the liquid. The Best Scotch Glasses are important to help keep these flavors true. There are many types, so we will go over three different types:
- Rocks glass – Glencairn glass – Neat or nosing glass
Rocks glasses are good for any type of whisky drink, including straight-up scotch, highballs with soda water, or mixed drinks like Old Fashioneds. A Glencairn glass has a narrower opening than most glasses which helps to concentrate aromas and flavors. A Neat or nosing glass is shaped like a tulip and has a wide opening, which aids in smelling the aromas of scotch and helps to bring out subtleties that might otherwise be missed.
